Dated at Wellington this 29th day of May 2026.

CHRISTINE ANDERSON, Pouroki | Registrar, Te Kaunihera Rata o Aotearoa | Medical Council of New Zealand.

Explanatory Note

The changes in fees and levies were consulted on with medical practitioners, Physician Associates, and other stakeholders from 13 March to 10 April 2026. Consultation feedback was considered by the Council at its meeting on 28 April 2026. Following consideration of that feedback, Council approved the fees and levies for the 2026/27 financial year, commencing 1 July 2026.

All of Council’s existing fees previously notified by Notice in the Gazette have been inflation-adjusted by 3.1%6, with the exception of:

  • an increase of $30.44 (5.1%), to the annual practising certificate fee, and an increase of $13.04 (5.8%), to the disciplinary levy, resulting in an overall increase to the combined fee for medical practitioners of $43.48 (5.3%);
  • the introduction of applicable fees for Physician Associates, including the annual practising certificate fee and disciplinary levy, as part of the inaugural fee schedule and in anticipation that live registration will be in place from 1 October 2026;
  • other changes to clarify and present certain fees more transparently, including health screening programme recoveries and professional standards fees; and
  • revised fees for recognition of a new vocational scope of practice, reflecting updated standards and assessment processes.
