Extension of Reporting Timeframes for Persons in Charge of Animals Under the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act 2012 in the Whanganui District, Ōhura Ward, and Wellington Region

Pursuant to section 34(2)(a) of the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act 2012 (“Act”), I, Sam McIvor, acting under authority as Chief Executive of National Animal Identification and Tracing Limited, which is the designated National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) organisation, give notice of alternative time limits to those prescribed by Regulations made under the Act for the provision of information by any person in charge of animals (PICA).

The alternative time limits apply only to those PICAs with NAIT animals located within the below areas affected by states of emergency (section 34(2)(a)(i) of the Act) declared at time of publication or affected by severe weather, such that the NAIT organisation is satisfied that non-compliance with time limits is justified (section 34(2)(a)(ii) of the Act).

  • Whanganui District
  • Ōhura Ward
  • Wellington Region

The alternative time limits are:

  • A person registering as a PICA under section 27(1) of the Act must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the state of emergency.
  • A PICA making a declaration under section 31(1) of the Act must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the state of emergency.
  • A PICA tagging an animal in accordance with regulation 20 of the National Animal Identification and Tracing (Obligations and Exemptions) Regulations 2012 must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the state of emergency.
  • A PICA making a declaration under section 32(1) of the Act must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the state of emergency.

This extension comes into effect on the date of publication in the New Zealand Gazette and expires 48 hours after the cessation of the state of emergency.
