1. Under section 103 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, the Minister for Sport and Recreation directs Sport and Recreation New Zealand to give effect to Government policy as specified in this direction.

2. This direction comes into effect on 1 July 2026.

3. The Government’s policy is:

1. to ensure publicly funded sporting bodies support fair competition that is not compromised by rules related to gender; and
2. that matters concerning how transgender people participate in sport, at any level, are best left to sports organisations to address.
