Pursuant to section 190(1) of the Education and Training Act 2020 (“Act”), I hereby establish Te Wharekura o Te Waitangi o Hinemuri at the Waihi Community Marae, Victoria Street, Waihi, a Year 1–13, co-educational, composite wharekura, and designate it as a designated character kura, kura-ā-iwi, under section 204 of the Act.

Te Wharekura o Te Waitangi o Hinemuri will operate the following aims, purposes and objectives which will together constitute its designated character:

• A local curriculum in accordance with the tikanga (practices), kawa (protocols), history and dialect of the iwi of Hauraki.
• Te reo Māori will be the primary language of instruction.
• Te Ao Māori will be embedded in all teaching and learning.

The constitution of the Board will be an alternative constitution under clause 4, Schedule 22 of the Act.

Under section 205(4) of the Act, I name Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa as a body having a special affiliation with the wharekura.

This wharekura shall open for instruction on 28 January 2027.
