Notice of Application to Vary the Conditions of a Registered Trade Name Product (Notice No. MPI ACVM 123)

Notice is given under section 14(1) of the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 (“Act”), of the following application to vary the conditions of a registered trade name product under section 9(2) of the Act:

Trade Name: Alfaxan Multidose Anaesthetic Injection

Reference: A011404

Active Ingredient and Concentration:

10mg/mL Alfaxalone

Formulation Type: Aqueous solution

Application method/administration route: Induction of anaesthesia by the intravenous route. Dogs Un-premedicated: 3mg/kg (0.3mL/kg) Premedicated: 2mg/kg (0.2mL/kg); Cats Un-premedicated: 5mg/kg (0.5mL/kg) Premedicated: 5mg/kg (0.5mL/kg); Rabbits Un-premedicated: 5mg/kg (0.5mL/kg) Premedicated: 4mg/kg (0.4mL/kg)

General Use Claim:

Alfaxan Multidose is an injectable steroid anaesthetic for use in dogs and cats. Alfaxan Multidose can be used: as an induction agent prior to gaseous anaesthesia, or as a sole anaesthetic agent for the induction and maintenance of anaesthesia for the performance of examination or surgical procedures.

Proposed New Claim:

For use via the intravenous (IV) route as an induction agent prior to gaseous anaesthesia in dogs, cats, and rabbits or as a sole anaesthetic agent for the induction and maintenance of anaesthesia for the performance of examination or surgical procedures in dogs and cats.

Any person may make a written submission to the Director-General concerning this application.

Under sections 16 and 17 of the Act, a written submission:

  1. must state in full the reasons for making the submission;
  2. may state any decision sought on that application; and
  3. must be received by the Director-General no later than 30 working days after the date of this notice.

Each submission must state the trade name product(s) to which it relates. Under section 18 of the Act, a copy of every submission will be forwarded to the applicant.
