Pursuant to section 190(1) of the Education and Training Act 2020 (“Act”), I hereby establish Te Wharekura o Tāmaki ki te Tonga at 21 Trounson Avenue, Manurewa, a Year 1–8, co-educational kura, and designate it as a designated character kura, kura-ā-iwi, under section 204 of the Act effective from Term 4, 2026.

Te Wharekura Tāmaki ki te Tonga will operate the following aims, purposes and objectives which will together constitute its designated character:

• To create a coherent learning pathway for ākonga from Years 1–8 that fosters fluency in te reo Māori and strengthens their identity as Māori.
• To build whanaungatanga within an inclusive, connected community of learners, embracing all iwi, hapū, and whānau. He kore au e ngaro he kākano i ruia mai Rangiātea – I will never be lost, for I am a seed sown from Rangiātea.
• To provide a curriculum grounded in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, founded on the values of whakamana, tiaki, aroha, and manaaki, and encompassing Te Whare Tapa Whā – taha wairua, taha hinengaro, taha whānau, and taha tinana – to support the holistic development of ākonga.

The constitution of the Board will be a standard constitution under section 119 of the Act.
