Te Kura o Tawhiuau Establishment Pursuant to sections 146 and 156 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura o Tawhiuau establishment. 2. The notice shall come into force on 1 January 2000. 3. I hereby establish in Murupara a composite school called Te Kura o Tawhiuau and designate the school as a designated character school. 4. Aims, purposes and objectives of Te Kura o Tawhiuau. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura o Tawhiuau. (i) To learn through te reo and tikanga o Ngati Manawa. (ii) To lift the academic achievement of all children. (iii) To pursue excellence and quality in all areas of the kura. (iv) To produce bilingual and biliterate students. (v) To treasure children as taonga. (vi) To engender pride in mana Maori motuhake. (vii) To honour the Treaty of Waitangi. (viii) To honour the principles of tika, transparancy, accountability and kaimahi mo te iwi. (ix) To maintain a commitment to mana, manaakitanga, eke taumata, and whanaungatanga. (x) To create an environment where Ngati Manawatanga permeates every aspect of the teaching and learning and in which children may have their mauri, mana and wairua nurtured so they may grow tall and proud as Ngati Manawa and fulfil their potential. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees The board of trustees of Te Kura o Tawhiuau shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister. (b) The principal, or principal designate.
