Exemption Under the Animal Remedies Act 1967 Notice No. 1139 Pursuant to section 3 (1) of the Animal Remedies Act 1967, and on the recommendation of the Animal Remedies Board, I hereby give notice: (1) that all previous notices exempting animal remedies from sections of the Animal Remedies Act 1967 are revoked and this notice substituted in their place. (2) that products of the types listed in the Schedule below are exempted from all sections except section 3 (1) of the Animal Remedies Act 1967. For the purposes of this notice: Non-medicated means: containing no pharmacological or therapeutic substances. Pharmacological substance means: a substance that is administered to animals to achieve a pharmacological effect, which is to modify a physiological function of that animal. Therapeutic sustance means: a substance administered to achieve a therapeutic effect which is to prevent, treat, or cure a disease or abnormal condition. Schedule of types of products exempted from all sections of the Animal Remedies Act 1967 1. All products that are non-medicated topical skin preparations used solely to maintain or improve skin condition, excluding preparations used on the teats of lactating animals used for production of human food products or pharmaceuticals. 2. All products that are non-absorbable masking agents to disguise odours, and non-absorbable self-mutilation deterring agents. 3. All products, excluding preparation used on the teats of lactating animals used for production of human food products or pharmaceuticals, that are: (a) Over-the-counter topical antiseptic (excluding antibiotic) preparations for the prevention or treatment of minor wounds and abrasions and minor bacterial and fungal skin infections (not to be used in the eye or internal ear); or (b) Over-the-counter poultices. 4. Over-the-counter topical anti-inflammatory preparations for the treatment of minor skin irritations, excluding preparations used on the teats of lactating animals used for production of human food products or pharmaceuticals. 5.
