Code For Business Development Boards 1998, Amendment No. 1 Pursuant to section 7 of the Business Development Boards Act 1991, the Minister of Business Development hereby amends the Code For Business Development Boards 1998 as follows: N o t i c e 1. Title and commencement (1) This notice may be cited as the Code For Business Development Boards 1998, Amendment No. 1, and is to be read with and deemed part of the Code for Business Development Boards 1998 (referred to in this notice as the principal code). (2) This notice comes into effect on the date that it is signed by the Minister. 2. Decision making Subclause 9 (1) of the principal code is omitted and the following subclause substituted: ``(1) Each board may delegate to any employee any of the functions and powers of the board under the Business Development Programme, other than the power to contract with a person under clause 4 of the Schedule and the power to meet the costs of promoting and running appropriate training programmes under clause 8 of the Schedule; provided that the person to whom those functions and powers are delegated shall not delegate those functions and powers without the written consent of the board.'' 3. Amendments to Schedule (1) Clause 4 of the Schedule to the principal code is omitted and the following clause substituted: ``4. Boards may contract with any person to undertake preliminary business appraisals, based on the capabilities outlined in clause 3 of this Schedule, of any selected SMEs referred to that person by the Board.'' (2) Clause 7 of the Schedule to the principal code is omitted and the following clause substituted: ``7. Boards will refer SMEs to persons or entities who provide training in the relevant skill. Boards may also promote training programmes which they consider will improve the capabilities,skills and performance of SMEs in their region.'' (3) Clause 8 of the Schedule to the principal code is omitted and the following clause substituted: ``8. The costs of promoting and running training programmes for SMEs may be met by boards.'' 4. Amendments to Explanatory Note The explanatory note to the principal code is amended by omitting the paragraph beginning ``The appraisal will be carried'' and ending ``to establish a business.'' and substituting the following paragraph: ``The appraisal will be carried out by persons selected and paid for by boards. This notice amends the Code for Business Development Boards 1998 by enabling Business Development Boards to contract with providers for the delivery of preliminary business appraisals and to contribute towards the costs of promoting and running training programmes focused on enhancing the management skills and capabilities of SMEs.
