Issue of Guidelines Setting Standard Criteria for Food Safety Programmes I give notice that I have issued guidelines setting standard criteria for food safety programmes for the hospitality/food service part of the food industry (which includes without limitation, restaurants, caterers and hotels) to allow an exemption from the provisions of the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974 in respect of any premises of an applicant, or any vehicle of an applicant, or both (``the guidelines''). Pursuant to section 8zo of the Food Act 1981, the guidelines incorporate by reference the ``Code of Practice for the development of a food safety programme for a Food Service Operation'' published by the Foodservice Association of New Zealand in 1998 (``the code''). The criteria in the guidelines must be satisfied before an application for an exemption based on that code of practice may be granted by a territorial authority. This notice is given, pursuant to section 8zn and 8zp of the Food Act 1981, under delegated authority from the Director-General of Health dated 20 February 1998. The guidelines may be obtained free of charge from the Ministry of Health, P.O. Box 5013, Wellington. The code may be purchased from the Foodservice Association of New Zealand, P.O. Box 47-244, Ponsonby, Auckland. Dated at Wellington this 4th day of August 1998. GAIL POWELL, Manager, Food and Nutrition Section, Ministry of Health.
