Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Constitution Notice 1997 Pursuant to section 169 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. (a) This notice may be cited as the Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Constitution Notice 1997. (b) This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette. 2. The constitution of the council for Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi shall be as follows: (a) Four members appointed by the Minister of Education. (b) The Chief Executive of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi. (c) Six members appointed by Te Runanga o Ngati Awa. (d) One permanent member of the academic staff of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi elected by the permanent members of that staff. (e) One permanent member of the general staff of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi elected by the permanent members of that staff. (f) One member who is or has been a student of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi who shall represent the students of and who shall be elected by the students of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi. (g) One member appointed in accordance with the constitution of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Council after consultation with the central organisation of employees within the meaning of the Employment Contracts Act 1991. (h) One member appointed after consultation with the workers with the central organisation of employers within the meaning of the Employment Contracts Act 1991. (i) One member appointed after consultation with The Whakatane District Council. (j) Up to two members co-opted by the Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Council. 3. No person who is a permanent member of the staff of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi or who is a student of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi shall be eligible for election, appointment or co-option as a member of the council other than those persons elected, appointed or co-opted pursuant to paragraphs (d), (e), (f) and (g) of clause 2. 4. The term of office of members of the council, vacation of office, disclosure of members' interests and casual vacancies are covered in sections 173 to 176 of the Education Act 1989. 5. Subject to section 173 of the Act, the maximum term of any member other than the Chief Executive Officer shall be 3 consecutive 4-year terms. 6. The term of office of members who are co-opted to the council under clause 2 (j), shall be determined by the council, but shall not exceed a period of 4 years.
