Development of a Work Capacity Assessment Procedure (WCAP) by the Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Corporation Pursuant to section 50 of the Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Act 1992, the Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Corporation has developed a final draft procedure to assess capacity for work. The final draft procedure follows consideration of submissions received on the first draft procedure. As a result of the submissions received, the final draft document contains more information on the following specific issues: How the procedure will work, especially for claimants with special needs. The qualifications assessors will require. How the process will apply to claimants whose injury deteriorates after they have been assessed as having a capacity for work. It is hoped that adding this information will meet concerns expressed in the submissions. No changes have been made where submissions challenged parts of the procedure that are set by legislation, such as the 3 months before ending entitlement to weekly compensation, or ACC's role in developing the WCAP. A copy of the summary of submissions is available from the address below. After ACC has considered submissions on the final draft procedure, the final version will be made public before it is implemented. Members of the public are hereby invited to make written submissions on the final draft procedure, copies of which, including explanations, are available from all ACC offices. Submissions should be returned to the address below, no later than 5.00 p.m. on Friday, 22 August 1997. DAVID SCHNELLENBERG, Submissions, Work Capacity Assessment Procedure Project, ACC Head Office, P.O. Box 242, Wellington.
