Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Matai Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education, hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Matai. 2. This notice shall come into force on 30 September 1996. 3. I hereby establish at Waitangi (near Te Puke), a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Matai, and designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Matai. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Matai: (i) To educate children to be confident in their language and culture; (ii) To foster excellence in order that each student may attain his/her potential; (iii) To equip students with the skills required in today's changing world, and thus prepare them for life; (iv) To be guided by the principles of equity and to provide for the needs of all children; (v) To encourage self-esteem, to foster mana, and to develop a sense of responsibility based on manaaki, aroha, and awhina; (vi) To value, enhance, and preserve te reo Maori and tikanga Maori; (vii) To empower members of the community so that they may share in decisions regarding the education of their children and assist in the learning process. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Matai shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister. (b) The principal.
