Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa Under sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education, hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa. 2. This notice shall come into force on 1 January 1997. 3. I hereby establish in Christchurch a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa, and designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu O Te Wairoa: (i) To develop a high degree of self-esteem, a sense of pride, self-respect and confidence in every student. (ii) To ensure high levels of achievement in educational and vocational skills. (iii) To help all students realise their full potential. (iv) To explore and extend individual and group activity. (v) To reinforce the practical and spiritual value of Maori land and language. (vi) To cultivate an awareness of the place of the individual in the universe and his/her relationship and responsibility to all people and things in nature. (vii) To promote cultural difference as a positive feature in a multi-cultural society. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Ngati Kahungunu shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister. (b) The principal, or principal designate.
