Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Taumarere Under sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education, hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Taumarere. 2. This notice shall come into force on 1 January 1997. 3. I hereby establish in Moerewa/Kawakawa area a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Taumarere, and designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Taumarere. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Taumarere: (i) To ensure that all pupils receive an education which enhances and excites their learning, which builds on their needs, and which respects their dignity, rights, and individuality. (ii) To pursue the highest standards of achievement through programmes which will enable all students to realise their full potential as individuals, and to develop the values needed to become full members of New Zealand society. (iii) To support the revitalisation of the Maori language as a taonga as guaranteed under the Treaty of Waitangi. (iv) To be guided by the principles, philosophies, and practices of Te Aho Matua. (v) To provide the best learning opportunities through a balanced curriculum aimed at achieving high levels of competence in literacy, numeracy, science, and technology. (vi) To achieve excellence through the establishment of clear learning objectives, the monitoring of student performance against those objectives, and the provision of programmes to meet individual needs. (vii) To develop knowledge, understanding, and the skills needed to compete successfully in the modern world. (viii) To encourage every child to respect the diverse ethnic and cultural heritage of all people in New Zealand. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Taumarere shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister. (b) The principal, or principal designate.
