Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau Tahi Under sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education, hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau Tahi. 2. This notice shall come into force on 1 January 1997. 3. I hereby establish in Christchurch a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau Tahi, and designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau Tahi. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau Tahi: (i) To uphold and to retain te reo Maori and tikanga Maori. (ii) To encourage high levels of academic achievement in the essential learning areas of the curriculum. (iii) To provide educational programmes that challenge individual pupils to strive to reach their potential. (iv) To respect the mana of each child and his/her individuality. (v) To ensure that the well-being of children and their learning remain central to the philosophy of the school. (vi) To ensure a holistic philosophy of education based on all aspects of Maoritanga. (vii) To identify and nurture the individual and collective strengths of children. (viii) To involve kaumatua and whanau in all aspects of the learning and development of their children. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau Tahi shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister.
