Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Huiarau Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education, hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Huiarau. 2. The notice shall come into force two days after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette. 3. I hereby establish at Huiarau a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Huiarau, and designate it as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Huiarau. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Huiarau: (a) The acquisition of appropriate academic skills and knowledge which will allow students to succeed in later life experiences. (b) The acquisition of skills and knowledge through the medium of te reo Maori. (c) The retention and enhancement of the Tuhoe dialect, its kawa and tikanga. (d) A Maori and local perspective on knowledge and the world. (e) Community involvement in the education of the children. (f) The provision of a teaching and learning environment which is naturally suited to encouraging all students to strive for excellence. (g) The attainment of a high level of fluency and competency in both Maori and English. (h) To promote positive attitudes towards education. (i) To encourage active parental participation in education. (j) Regular exchanges between the kura kaupapa Maori in the rohe be implemented. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Huiarau shall comprise: (a) Seven parent representatives. (b) The principal. (c) A staff representative.
