Te Kura o Torere Establishment

Pursuant to sections 146 and 156 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura o Torere establishment.
2. The notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. I hereby establish in Torere a full primary school called Te Kura o Torere and designate the school as a designated character school.
Aims, Purposes and Objectives of Te Kura o Torere
4. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura o Torere:
? To learn through te reo and tikanga o Ngai Tai.
? To pursue excellence and quality in all areas of the kura.
? To develop within the tamariki pride in who they are.
? Nurture and safeguard the mauri, mana and wairua of our tamariki, mokopuna and cater for the spiritual development of the child.
? To honour the Treaty of Waitangi.
? To have a school where the tamariki are the most important component.
? To raise the academic achievement, self-esteem,
self-confidence, pride and mana of Ngai Tai tamariki
by integrating positive Maori values and principles into every aspect of the school activites.
Constitution of the Board of Trustees
5. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura o Torere shall comprise:
(a) Five people appointed by the Minister.
(b) The principal or principal designate.
(c) Not more than 4 persons co-opted by the board.
