Fisheries (Auckland Islands Squid Fishery Closure) Notice 2000 (No. F147)

Pursuant to section 15 (5) of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister of Fisheries hereby gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. Title and commencement-This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Auckland Islands Squid Fishery Closure) Notice 2000 and shall come into force at midday on the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette and shall expire on 30 September 2000.
2. Interpretation-In this notice:
(a) the term "Auckland Islands Squid Fishery" means all of the Southern Islands Area of the SQU6T fishery as defined in the Fisheries (Squid Quota Management Areas, Total Allowable Catches, and Catch Histories) Notice 1987* being more particularly:
all New Zealand fisheries waters-
(i) Enclosed by a line commencing at a point 49° 30' S and 165° E; then proceeding due east to a point
49° 30' S and 168° E; then proceeding due south to a point 51° 30' S and 168° E; then proceeding
due west to a point 51° 30' S and 165° E;
then proceeding due north to the point of commencement; and
(ii) Enclosed by a line commencing at a point 51° 30' S and 168° E; then proceeding due east to a point
51° 30' S and 171° E; then proceeding due south to a point 53° 30' S and 171° E; then proceeding
due west to a point 53° 30' S and 168° E;
then proceeding due north to the point of commencement.
(b) the term "squid" means that species of fish of which the scientific name is Nototodarus gouldi or Nototodarus sloani, commonly known as arrow squid.
3. Closed season for squid trawling determined-It is hereby determined that the Auckland Islands Squid Fishery is closed to squid trawling for a term commencing when this notice comes into force and ending with the close of
30 September 2000.
